Former President and President of the People’s Force, Leonel Fernández, has become a trend with 1,683 tweets by noon this Saturday, for the congratulations he received via Twitter on the occasion of his birthday with #CongratulationsLeonel.
Traditionally, the president of the Global Democracy and Development Foundation (Funglode) received visits from hundreds of people who came to the foundation’s facilities to wish him good omens for his birth, but this year these were virtual due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This tradition began during Fernández’s reign, when people approached the National Palace to congratulate him.
Despite not being able to celebrate with hundreds of people around him, the tradition remains, this time virtually, as the former president’s birthday will be broadcast live from the various reports from the People’s Force and Funglode.
The lawyer and former Vice President of the Republic, Rafael Alburquerque during Fernández’s tenure, wrote in his account “Happy birthday, colleague and friend @LeonelFernandez, thanks to his leadership, the DR has preserved its democracy,” a message he accompanied from a photo of both.
