Leonardo Faña is released on parole

Former Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD) director Leonardo Faña was released from Najayo prison after the protective custody imposed on him on charges of sexual assault was changed by the institution’s former financial manager.

This was confirmed by his lawyer, Carlos Olivares, who said that the lawyer of the national court, José del Carmen Sepúlveda, has sent the release order to the above-mentioned prison to be executed.

This happens after the judges of the Court amended the two-month pre-trial detention imposed by investigating judge Nancy Joaquín, who seized the file.

It is recalled that last Wednesday, the Court, chaired by Ignacio Camacho, imposed on Faña the payment of an economic guarantee of 500 thousand pesos, an exit barrier and a periodic presentation.

Olivares, who leads the defense of the suspended officer, argued before the court that the budgets giving rise to the protective custody had been changed.

Complaint

The sexual assault complaint against Faña was filed January 18 with the Unit for Attention and Prevention of Gender Violence by former IAD financial manager María Isabel Flores, who eventually withdrew the complaint, but the prosecution continued the process. that eventually took him to Najayo prison.

Faña asked President Luis Abinader for a work permit to face the accusation and has said at all times that he is innocent of the charges against him.

In a letter he sent to the head of state, the suspended official stated: “Mr. will prove my innocence, be it on a legal or political level ”.
