“I have nieces and nephews who are now reaching that age, who are proud of me and who want to google me, but it’s impossible to do that without my name getting stuck in the mud,” he added.

Nicol decided to leave sports after the big emotional blow it dealt to heras he suffers from anxiety and deep depression, from which he recovered with therapy, although he could not fully recover from the harassment he suffered.

“I ended up in a vicious circle. There was never a quiet moment. I still suffer from anxiety and times when I can’t get out of bed. Now I can understand why people kill themselves over this stuff because I don’t know how I got over it. It took a change of perspective and surrounded me with the right people, ”he noted.

Leigh at that point he closed his social networks to all the hurtful and obscene messages he received and recently reopened them, but the problem persists: “I still get feedback. At least one per night. I’ve started to normalize it and that hurts me. It’s frustrating to be recognized for that. ”

After experiencing hell, he found an opportunity in the Crystal Palace to rebuild themselves, a team that didn’t care about their past and in the dressing room he has the photo of the tree in which he thought of suicide, instead of their loved ones like their peers.

I smile when I look at it. It doesn’t make me sad. He has no negative memories for me. I am very grateful that I was able to overcome that period of my life.
