Well-known Cuban actress and broadcaster Martha Velasco, the remembered Teresa Guitarreta ‘Teté’, from ‘Alegrías de Sobremesa’, died in Havana on Friday at the age of 95, reported Radio clock
Martha developed an extensive career in television, theater and national radio, although in the latter medium she worked the most, both in dramatic and humorous spaces.
In recognition of his work for more than half a century as a protagonist in novels, short stories, theaters and series on the Radio Progreso station, he was awarded the National Radio Prize for the Work of Life.
“Yes, I was trained in radio while traveling through almost all the radio stations in Havana, there were thirty or more,” he said in an interview on the Cuban radio website.
Born in the Cuban capital on November 1, 1925, Martha Velasco made her debut at the age of 17 in the role of Doña Inés, from the play ‘Don Juan Tenorio’, for the radio station Maybe-Seigle. Later he studied drama and declamation at the School of Fine Arts of the Galician Center of Havana.
Among the characters most fondly remembered by the actress were the protagonists of the novel ‘The Purple Color’ and the play ‘La casa de Bernarda Alba.
He also worked at the important radio station RHC Cadena Azul. Actors with whom he shared microphones throughout his life include Julio Alberto Casanova, Raquel Revuelta, Pastor Felipe, Raúl Selis and Miguel Navarro.
For her artistic merits, she also received the National Culture Award, the Radio and Television Artist of Merit Medal, and the Alejo Carpentier Medal.
His body is cremated by family decision.
