Health officials in Illinois reported 1,631 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus on Sunday, the lowest one-day increase in that measure since early October.
That news comes as vaccination efforts continue to increase statewide. According to the latest information from IDPH, the state has set a new record for the most average COVID-19 vaccines in the past week, with more than 60,000 residents receiving doses of the vaccine per day.

Chicago opens 4 COVID-19 vaccine sites for school employees
Four COVID-19 vaccination sites dedicated to Chicago Public Schools teachers and staff are expected to be fully operational within the next week, district officials said.
As of Monday, Chicago is reserving 1,500 photos a week for employees in the country’s third-largest school district. That’s in addition to the roughly 2,000 doses offered in recent days to teachers who are at higher risk of illness or are more likely to return to classrooms as the ward gradually reopens. Some pre-K and special education students began personal classes on Thursday.
The vaccination sites are at four schools, including Clemente High School where some educators have already received injections. District officials said workers will be released from work during their vaccination appointments.

According to the Ministry of Health, Sunday’s new cases were the lowest number in one day since early October. A total of 1,162,154 cases of the virus have been recorded in Illinois since the start of the pandemic, along with 19,961 confirmed fatalities.
An additional 2,160 deaths are classified as “probable” COVID-19 deaths.

All of Illinois remains in Phase 4 coronavirus mitigation as statistics regarding the virus continue to improve in most of the state.
According to the IDPH website, all regions in the state have achieved a positivity rate of 5% or less in the past seven days, with most regions still seeing a drop in hospital admissions.
Under current COVID restriction rules, unless a region reports a positivity rate greater than 6.5% for three consecutive days, unless it reports an ICU bed availability of less than 20%, or an increase, a region will remain in phase 4 of the state’s reopening plan. of the number of hospital admissions on seven days in a 10 day period.
