LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Health officials in Lancaster County will begin vaccinating people in the Stage 1B category starting next Friday, starting with people 80 and older.
According to Pat Lopez, Lincoln-Lancaster County Heath director, Lancaster County, one of two counties in Nebraska still moving to Phase 1B, will make the switch Friday.
More information about who is eligible for phase 1B can be found here.
The vaccines will be administered at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The city said they will be contacting people on Tuesday to make arrangements to get the vaccine at PBA.
Many viewers approached us on 10/11 NOW with questions about this process.
Many viewers wanted to know what the health department is doing to accommodate people with mobility problems.
“We are extending the time to have more time, we have additional volunteers there and work through street signs and others outside and assistance if they need to park and get it in,” said Lopez.
Lopez said the clinic will be on the lower level, they will have wheelchairs, free parking in the adjacent garage, and free vehicles.
The province said Phase 1B will take months. It includes about 45,000 people in that age group, essential workers such as educators and police, and those with underlying conditions.
The city wants to remind people that if you fall into that category, you can’t just show up. You must first register to get the vaccination on the county website.

Lincoln City Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird said that as of 11:45 a.m., 66,000 people have signed up for the vaccine through the Lancaster County registry.
In addition, during the week of February 15, the city will allocate all doses to independent retirement communities and are working with local pharmacies to vaccinate people in their hometown.
