LA County moves to Orange Tier – NBC Los Angeles

Los Angels County will relax its coronavirus restrictions on Monday and joins Orange County to enact looser rules now that both are in the orange tier of the state’s surveillance system.

The restrictions will be relaxed just after midnight. Here’s what it means.

  • Cinemas, restaurants, churches, museums, zoos and aquariums can go from 25% to 50% of capacity.
  • The fitness capacity is increased from 10% to 25%.
  • Card rooms and family entertainment centers can resume indoor operations at 25% capacity.

The province will still enforce certain rules that are stricter than what the state allows. In particular, bars that don’t serve food – which should only be reopened outdoors – will only be able to operate from 11:30 am to 10:00 pm, with a required distance of 8 feet between outdoor tables.

And while state directives allow all capacity restrictions on retail establishments in the orange tier to be lifted, Los Angeles County will impose a 75% limit on grocery stores and other retail operations, while strongly recommending until April 15 to give more workers vaccinated.

The county’s statistics continued to evolve in the right direction on Sunday, as 535 new cases of COVID-19 and only three additional deaths were reported, although health officials said the lower number of deaths may be due to weekend delays.

According to state figures, the number of coronavirus patients in provincial hospitals has increased from 590 on Saturday to 591. The number of those patients in intensive care fell from 158 to 151.

Sunday’s figures brought the county’s total to 1,222,114 cases and 23,275 fatalities since the start of the pandemic, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

While most orange rules don’t go into effect until Monday, the rules for outdoor theme parks and outdoor event venues – like Dodger Stadium – went into effect Thursday. Those rules allowed theme parks to open with 25% of the capacity and outdoor locations with 33% of the capacity.

Breweries and wineries can offer back office service from Monday at 25% capacity. Breweries, wineries, bars and restaurants may turn on their televisions outside, but live entertainment remains prohibited.
