Kyle Kuzma agrees to a 3-year extension with Lakers

Los Angeles Lakers forward Kyle Kuzma has agreed to a three-year extension of $ 40 million, including a player option before the 2023-2024 season, sources told ESPN.

Kuzma, 25, ended Sunday talking about his rookie extension.

In a rare no-cap rookie contract extension that includes a player option, the deal allows Kuzma to become an unrestricted free agent in his prime at the age of 28. That is an advantage for Kuzma if he exceeds his extension, which starts with the 2021-2022 season.

Kuzma is fighting for a runway with the Lakers, who will defend their NBA title against the Los Angeles Clippers at Staples Center on Tuesday night.

In his first three NBA seasons with defending champion Lakers, Kuzma started 114 games, scoring an average of 16 points. Kuzma was the 27th pick in the 2017 NBA draft.
