Kyle Higashioka responds after fans swear to tattoo Yankees catcher ‘on my a-‘

Kyle Higashioka is hitting homers on the pitch and on Twitter.

Of all the tweets that the Yankees-catcher could have responded to – after homering twice in Monday-evening’s 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays – he picked one that the fans got excited about.

After the Yankees’ win over Toronto, Jack “CouRage” tweeted Dunlop, a popular internet personality and Esports co-owner, and wrote, “@Yankees I’m getting a Kyle Higashioka tattoo on my a-.” A bold move that was probably fueled by Higashioka’s great offensive performance, as well as his perfect chemistry with pitcher Gerrit Cole.

“Is this for real?” Higashioka replied to Dunlop’s tweet.

Dunlop just replied: “Sh-t …”.

Higashioka has yet to respond, but many Twitter users found the exchange to be hilarious. Others jokingly called Dunlop for hopping on the Higashioka bandwagon after his continued progress behind the plate and at bat.

Higashioka has been a bright spot for the Yankees and is Gary Sanchez’s popular backup. Cole, the team’s ace, has performed much more consistently with Higashioka than with Sanchez.

During Monday night’s match-up, Higashioka played on both sides of the ball – playing a critical role in supporting Cole, hitting two homers, propelling the Yankees to victory on a night where they struggled with the record.

Aaron Boone said that while Higashioka will not be Cole’s “full-time” catcher, the 30-year-old who was selected by the team in the seventh round of the 2008 MLB draft, “will catch him a lot.” Boone noted that Sanchez will still catch Cole from time to time.
