Kurt Vile has signed with the legendary jazz label Verve Records, Billboard reports. Next year he will release his first LP for the label. So far, Vile has released his music through independent record labels, including Mexican Summer and Matador, who released 2018’s Bottle it in and 2020’s Speed, sound, lonely KV (ep)
In a statement, Vile said, “I’ve admired the Verve logo on the back (and front!) Of many a Velvet Underground album since I was a teenager.” He added, “I think that’s my previous album Bottle it in is my deepest record and I am still very proud of it. I am excited to release its sequel to Verve. It’s been a crazy f *** year and I have hundreds of songs and ideas in tin, on paper and in tape recorders, all scattered around the ‘kv zone’ … nuggets recorded before and after pandemic times .. in studios and from home … music from the past, the present and, yes, we’re still rolling. It’s gonna be tough, it’s gonna be beautiful … and it will be out there. “
Jamie Krents, the Executive Vice President at Verve and Impulse! Records added, “I’ve been a huge fan of Kurt’s for years and feel incredible that he has joined the Verve roster. Simply put, he’s one of my favorite artists and songwriters of every era and he makes timeless records. “
As Vile noted in his statement, Verve is home to rock acts such as the Velvet Underground. Currently, Vile will be label mates with active artists such as Jon Batiste and Betty LaVette, as well as late legendary acts such as Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald and Dizzy Gillespie.
