Kroger falsely handed out blank shots in place of COVID-19 vaccine at its Midlothian store

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. Multiple empty shots were accidentally handed out to a Central Virginia Kroger to people who thought they were getting a COVID-19 vaccine.

The CBS 6 Troubleshooters asked a spokesperson about an error reported at the Midlothian site at 14101 Midlothian Turnpike.

Allison McGee, the corporate affairs manager for Kroger Mid-Atlantic, said one of Kroger’s “The Little Clinic” teams administered empty injections instead of the COVID-19 vaccine as an “honest mistake.” Earlier in the day, company officials said the team administered saline injections instead of the vaccine.

“This was immediately discussed with the TLC team and all vaccinators were retrained and reminded of our current vaccination policy,” said McGee.

Kroger did not clarify exactly how many people were affected, but told CBS 6 it was a “small number of individuals.”

“All affected customers have been contacted and have now received the COVID-19 vaccine,” McGee said in a statement. “We apologize for this review and the inconvenience to these customers.”

WTVR CBS 6 asked Kroger how such an error came about, but we got no answer to that question.
