We’ve heard many new leaks and rumors about a possible remake or sequel Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic in the past month. While none of these rumors have been outright confirmed so far, given the sheer number that have emerged, it makes sense that there is some accuracy in what is circling. Now even more information has surfaced that gives us an idea of how long this has been new DIRTY has apparently been in the making.
Spotted by Reddit user u / mtol115, Aspyr, the studio rumored to be working on this new Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game, appears to have recruited a variety of former BioWare employees in 2019. The user found that there are currently about 20 former BioWare developers working at Aspyr. While some of these former BioWare employees have been with Aspyr for quite some time, others joined the studio in 2019.

As a whole, this information seems to indicate that the new iteration of Knights of the Old Republic has probably been in development since 2019. When studios start working on new projects of this type, they will typically bring a variety of new hires on board all at once. The fact that so many developers from another prominent studio that mainly works on RPGs joined Aspyr in 2019 seems to indicate that the game has been in production in some way since then.
Depending on the size of this new remake / sequel Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, this news could tell us a few things about when to expect the game. For most AAA game releases, development periods average between three and five years. As such a release for this new one DIRTY game in 2021 therefore seems quite unlikely.
That said, it seems possible that this year we’ll see another revival of the series in a different form. Other rumors from the past few weeks have suggested that Aspyr is also porting the first two Knights of the Old Republic games to modern consoles sometime later in 2021. Again, we still don’t know if this is entirely true, but given how many other Star Wars games have been ported in recent years, it’s extremely plausible.
It remains to be seen what the future holds Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic but given the number of rumors and reports that keep coming in, it seems that chances are we will learn more in the future. If it does, we will of course keep you posted here at ComicBook.com.
