Kitten Upstages SNL Sketch on post-pandemic dating

Saturday Night Live’s The final sketch of the evening dealt with the expected awkwardness of post-pandemic dating, but the actors’ jokes were tricked by a cute tabby kitten who kept meowing throughout the final part of the sketch.

The scene involved SNL cast member Kate McKinnon and the host and musical guest of the evening, Nick Jonas, as two strangers meeting in a bar on their first time venturing into the (hopefully near!) future after the coronavirus pandemic has ended.

The two stumble across long-unused flirting techniques and terrible pick-up lines while trying to get to know each other.

“You have beautiful eyes,” said Jonas, “but they would look better on my floor.”

“I don’t think you said that correctly,” McKinnon replied, encouraging him to “maybe just make a flirty face.”

They then resort to magic tricks to impress each other, with McKinnon first demonstrating a unique way of tying a cherry tree in a knot that she reveals she learned on “Hogwarts – kidding! Jail.”

Instead of pulling a rabbit out of a hat, Jonas’ trick was to pull a kitten out of his coat. The little brown tabby meowed as the crowd responded with delight.

McKinnon grinned happily when she took Jonas’s squirming kitten and called for the bartender to bring a bowl of milk, which she drank instead.

The bartender, played by Aidy Bryant, the kitten rocked in her arms as it continued to meow throughout the rest of the sketch.
