Killed rapper from San Antonio remembered as ‘humble, quiet’ by peers

SAN ANTONIO – A man found dead after being shot in his apartment in La Cantera is remembered by those who knew him as a music artist who stood out from the crowd.

Also known by his stage name as Kordone, Martell Derouen was considered unique not only for his lyrical talents but also for his unusually humble personality.

“Kordone was one of those that came up and shined bright, brighter than, you know, some of those who were in the room with him,” said Brian Mitchell, owner of Fyngermade Studio.

Mitchell thinks back to better days recording in the studio with 34-year-old Derouen, whom he considered a friend.

“He was just a very subtle guy, quiet,” Mitchell said.

Mitchell said, although Derouen was Beyoncé’s cousin, he never used her name to help him.

That’s not even something he would say to people. We should just enter his biography because it’s just worthy to put it in, but he doesn’t like that kind of thing, ”Mitchell said.

On Tuesday, Derouen was found shot dead in his apartment in the Tower complex in La Cantera.

‘I could not believe it. I thought they had the wrong person, ”said Mitchell.

Now the search is on for Sasha Skare, who, according to San Antonio police, shot Derouen. An active murder warrant has been issued for Skare.

On an Instagram page, which appears to be operated by the 21-year-old, you can see people telling her to turn herself in.

While investigators are convinced that Derouen was the victim of murder, the question still asked by so many is why?

“It’s like hurting a butterfly,” Mitchell said.

Derouen’s wife was too shocked to speak to KSAT12 on Thursday and asked for her privacy.

Via text message she echoed Mitchell’s feelings that he “didn’t deserve this”.
