Kike Hernández took to the streets for the first time in a Red Sox uniform

Puerto Rican Enrique “Kike” Hernández hit his first homerun in a Red Sox uniform on Tuesday in a 9-3 win against the Tampa Bay Rays at JetBlue Stadium in Fort Myer with part of the Major League Baseball preseason day.

Hernandez, who signed a two-year $ 14 million deal with the Red Sox after winning the 2020 World Series with the Los Angeles Dodgers, sent the ball to midfield in the third inning off righthanded David Hess. Hernandez, Boston’s first batter in the game, also walked two batters.

“I sent the ball to midfield. Now I have the strength of a father”, Hernández said during a televised intervention in the midst of the challenge. The Puerto Rican was referring to his newborn, Penelope Isabel, a product of his marriage to the actress and former Miss Universe Puerto Rico, Mariana Vicente.

In the same episode Jarren Duran, MVP in the winter ball final in Puerto Rico with the Caguas Criollos, and Dominican Rafael Devers also took to the streets.

Yairo Múñoz was the first to disappear in the second inning.

JD Martinez, who has vowed to return from a season hitting only .213 in 54 games, had a few basehits on three at-bats and scored a run. Venezuelan Martín Pérez threw two innings without allowing a touchdown. It allowed only one hit.

The Red Sox are 1-2 in the Grapefruit League so far.
