The Puerto Rican Player Enrique “Kike” Hernández reached a two-year $ 14 million deal with the Boston Red Sox, US media reported Friday.
The versatile joins the franchise where fellow countryman Alex Cora acts as manager and Christian Vázquez as starting receiver. Hernandez is expected to play in the middle for the Red Sox.
The 29-year-old Puerto Rican has spent the past six seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He participated in three Fall Classics and was a member of the ninth to win the final edition of the World Series.
Hernández became a free agent and Boston was one of the organizations that immediately showed interest. Cora, who is returning to the leadership position after serving for a year in suspension, got to know Hernández well when they were both part of Puerto Rico’s ninth runner-up in the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
In the shortened 2020 season, Hernández hit .230 with five homeruns and 20 RBI’s.
