Kike Hernández completes a two-year contract with the Red Sox

Puerto Rican baseball player Enrique “Kike” Hernández reached a two-year $ 14 million deal with the Boston Red Sox, US media reported Friday.

The versatile joins the franchise where fellow countryman Alex Cora acts as manager and Christian Vázquez as starting receiver.

The 29-year-old Puerto Rican has spent the past six seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He participated in three Fall Classics and was a member of the ninth to win the final edition of the World Series.

Hernández became a free agent and Boston was one of the organizations that immediately showed interest. Ora, who will return to the position of manager after a year of suspension, to get to know Hernández well when they were both part of Puerto Rico’s ninth finishing second in the 2017 World Baseball Classic.

In the shortened 2020 season, Hernández hit .230 with five homeruns and 20 RBI’s.
