Keyontae Johnson of Florida Gators is released from the hospital

Florida Gators attacker Keyontae Johnson will be released from hospital, his family said in a statement Tuesday.

In the statement, the Johnsons said they look forward to “spending Christmas together as a family.”

Johnson collapsed and fell face forward as he returned to the court after a first-half timeout during a game in Florida State on December 12. He received emergency medical care and was taken off the track on a stretcher before being rushed to the Tallahassee Memorial. .

While Johnson’s recovery appears to be progressing, it still hasn’t been said publicly what happened to him, something the Johnson family spoke to on Tuesday.

“In addition to so many good wishes and prayers, we have understandably been asked about the cause and extent of Keyontae’s disease,” said the family. “While everyone involved wants firm answers, the process of reaching definitive conclusions continues and we ask for patience as the medical professionals continue their work.”

Last Friday, Johnson made his first public comments since the incident, posting a video on social media.

“Hello everyone, first of all I want to thank God,” Johnson said in a 25 second video. “I know you have all been sending your prayers over the past few weeks, and me and my parents are very grateful for the prayers that have gone out.

“To all the doctors and medical personnel at Tallahassee Memorial and UF Shands, I want to thank you for all the support you have given me, especially the lady who was in the Florida State gym. To my Gator Nation and UF Athletic family, I want thank you for all the prayers you’ve all said for me. Go Gators. “
