NEW YORK – After being exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19, Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant is facing a week-long quarantine as part of the competition’s health and safety protocols, sources told ESPN.
Durant, who had COVID-19 in May, has continued to register antibodies to the coronavirus. As of Monday afternoon, Durant had tested negative for coronavirus three times, the sources added.
According to the Center for Disease Control, antibodies are “proteins that help fight infection and protect against disease.” Scientists are still not sure how much immunity the antibodies provide against infection. The NBA’s COVID-19 protocols do not distinguish between players who have antibodies and those who do not.
In the week that Durant is missing, Brooklyn will play against Utah, Philadelphia, Memphis and Oklahoma City.
Durant, who missed the entire 2019-2020 season in recovery from an Achilles tendon injury, has started all six Nets games this year.
He averaged 28.2 points, 7 rebounds and 4.8 assists in 34 minutes per game.
