Kevin Durant faces 7 days of quarantine for COVID-19 exposure

After being exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19, Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant is facing a week-long quarantine as part of the competition’s health and safety protocols, sources told ESPN.

Durant misses games against Utah, Philadelphia, Memphis and Oklahoma City.

Durant, who had COVID-19 in May, has continued to register antibodies against the coronavirus, sources said. According to sources, Durant had tested negative for coronavirus three times as of Monday afternoon.

According to the Center for Disease Control, antibodies are “proteins that help fight infection and can protect against recurrence.” Scientists still don’t know what level of immunity antibodies provide against reinfection. The NBA’s COVID-19 protocols do not distinguish between players who have antibodies and those who do not.

Durant, who missed the entire 2019/20 season in rehabilitation for an Achilles tendon, has entered all six Nets games this year. He scores an average of 28.2 points, 7 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game in 34 minutes of playing time.

The Nets have struggled after a strong start to the season, dropping to 3-4 after losing to the Atlanta Hawks and Washington Wizards.
