Kellen Winslow II faces 14 years in prison after pleading for rape and assault

VISTA, Calif. – Former NFL tight band Kellen Winslow II agreed to a 14-year sentence on Friday for raping a homeless woman and assaulting two other women.

Winslow, 37, agreed to changes to an earlier guilty plea to avoid a possible 18-year sentence.

In 2019, Winslow was convicted of raping a 58-year-old homeless woman in Encinitas, California. Facing a retrial for other charges, he later pleaded guilty to the rape of an unconscious teenager in 2003 and the sexual battery of a 54-year-old hitchhiker in 2018 in Encinitas.

That plea kept his sentence at 18 years. On Friday, a Superior Court judge in San Diego County approved an amendment replacing Winslow’s plea for sexual battery with a guilty plea for assaulting the hitchhiker with intent to commit rape.

That reduced the possible sentence to 14 years. Winslow is sentenced on March 3.

His sentencing was scheduled for last year. But it was delayed due to court closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Winslow was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2004 and spent four seasons with the team, where he was selected for the Pro Bowl in 2007. He has also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New England Patriots, and New York Jets. His last NFL season was in 2013.

Winslow is the son of Hall of Fame sleek Kellen Winslow Sr., who spent nine seasons with the Chargers.
