Katherine Heigl parted ways with Grey’s Anatomy more than 10 years ago.
But the Emmy-winning actress’s character, Dr. Izzie Stevens, still loves the hearts of the show’s fans.
She recently agreed to the unexpected reunion between Izzie and Justin Chambers’ Dr. Alex Karev, and she didn’t hold back her thoughts about how he got written off the show.

Don’t Hold Back: Katherine Heigl recently agreed to the unexpected reunion between her character Dr. Izzie Stevens and Dr. Alex Karev from Justin Chambers on Grey’s Anatomy, and she didn’t hesitate about how he got written off the show
The 42-year-old admitted to ET Online that she had not seen the Leave a Light On episode of Season 16, which aired on ABC last March: “I don’t see it.”
Alex leaves his wife Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) in Seattle, reuniting with his ex Izzie (who doesn’t actually appear in the episode) to raise their twins on a horse ranch in Kansas.
“Wasn’t he with someone?” Heigl asked after learning about the episode’s storyline, adding, “Listen, isn’t that an a ** hole move?”
It comes after showrunner Krista Vernoff defended TVLine’s choice last April: ‘At the end of the day, there were three choices. Kill Alex off camera; let Alex still live and be in Seattle – and still married to Jo – and we just never see him; or [reunite him] with Izzie. ‘

And while fan favorites like Patrick Dempsey and TR Knight have returned for special appearances in the current season, Heigl doesn’t seem interested in coming back.
She said of her new show Firefly Lane, ‘I’m super focused on this show and my passion for it. I would never say never, but it is not likely. ‘
Heigl starred in the show’s first six seasons, before her priorities shifted to raising her newly adopted daughter Nancy Leigh in September 2009.
She told Entertainment Weekly in 2010 that she asked to be written off after returning from paternal leave: ‘That really was the turning point for me.
So before I came back I spoke to again [creator] Shonda [Rhimes] about wanting to leave. Then I waited at home until I got formal permission that I wasn’t on the show. The rumors that I refused to return were completely untrue. ‘
Vernoff told her side of the story to the Los Angeles Times last November: “There was a solution to Izzie’s story. We planned to have her come back for an episode to really tie up Izzie and Alex.

Behind-the-scenes feud: There were also rumors of a feud between Heigl and Rhimes, after she pulled out of the 2008 Emmy race because she felt the show was not giving her ‘material to justify an Emmy nomination (pictured in February, 2019)
And I wrote that episode, and it was beautiful. The day before it was supposed to start prep or shoot, I don’t remember, we got a call saying Katie wasn’t coming. It just didn’t come. I wasn’t going to do it. ‘
There were also rumors of a feud between Heigl and Rhimes, after she pulled out of the 2008 Emmy race because she felt the show did not give her any material ‘to justify an Emmy nomination’.
The Knocked Up actress cleared the air in 2016, revealing that she sat down with Rhimes after her words spread in the press.
She told Howard Stern: ‘I went in because I was really ashamed. So I went in [see] Shonda and said, ‘I’m so sorry. That wasn’t cool, and I shouldn’t have said that. ‘
And I shouldn’t have said anything in public. But at the time I didn’t think anyone would notice … I just quietly didn’t surrender and then it became a story, and I felt I was obliged to make my statement, and [I should have just said], “Shut up, Katie.” ‘
