Kate Winslet has spoken out about her daughter Mia’s acting career.
The actress, 45, who shares Mia with her first husband Jim Threapleton, appeared in Lorraine on Monday, setting out Mia’s career and explaining that having different surnames has allowed her to flourish on her own.
She said, “What’s great for her is that she has a different last name, so she slipped under the radar and the people who cast her didn’t know she was my daughter and that was obviously important to her self-esteem.”

Kate was married to Mia’s father Jim from 1998 to 2001, before marrying Sam Mendes, with whom she shares son Joe, 17, two years later, and then broke up in 2011.
She is now married to Edward Abel Smith, with whom she shares son Bear, seven.
Mia made her acting debut last year in the Irish-set chiller Shadows, which was directed by Italian film heavyweight Carlo Lavagna and shot mostly in an abandoned hotel in the woods near Howth.
