‘I got the feeling she was nervous’: Kate Winslet reveals she hid in a trunk to support her mare from Easttown co-star Angourie Rice, 20, in a sex scene
Kate Winslet has revealed that she has hidden in the trunk of a car to help and coach her younger opponent during a sex scene.
The actress, 45, volunteered to take on the role of intimacy coordinator on the set of the upcoming HBO series Mare of Easttown to support her daughter Angourie Rice, 20.
Speaking to Samira Ahmed on the How I Found My Voice podcast, Kate said no intimacy coordinator had been hired for the scene as the characters remain dressed everywhere.

She said: “Since no clothes came off on the spot, they did not consider calling in an intimacy coordinator.
And I just felt like she was nervous. So I said to her, “I’m going to be around for this, I’m staying, I won’t leave the set.”
She said, “Thank goodness Kate, thank you very much.” And I ended up in the car. I ended up in the trunk of the car.
“I knew it would make them feel better if that one person were able to raise their hand and say,” Actually we have to cut now, is everyone feeling fine? “
“Sometimes even directors are uncomfortable communicating with actors about intimate scenes, even if it’s just kissing.”

In the limited series, which also stars Julianne Nicholson and Evan Peters, Kate stars as a Pennsylvania detective investigating a local murder.
Kate also revealed that she and Ammonite co-star Saoirse Ronan did not have an intimacy coordinator for their love scenes in the movie.
She said, ‘It’s interesting we didn’t have them on Ammonite and I think that’s partly because at the time we made the movie it was 2019. Intimacy coordinators were only becoming a little bit, they were not legally required to film sets. ‘
Kate explained, “I just felt like she was nervous. So I said to her, “I’m staying for this, I’m staying, I’m not leaving the set”
‘Ammonite was really a low budget movie, we didn’t have stunt doubles, hand doubles we barely had a packed lunch. It was not something that was ever offered to us. ‘
But Saoirse and I felt pretty confident in what we wanted to do with the characters in those intimate scenes. I think the fact that we took care of each other made us feel a little bit better. ‘
The Oscar winner said she wished intimacy coordinators had been on movie sets more often in the past.
She said, ‘I absolutely wish I had them in the past, I sure do. I really could have done with that friend.
Just ask a friend to say, “Can you ask him not to keep his hands there?” So you don’t have to say it, which can be quite difficult. ‘
