Two years ago it was announced that Kate would become McKinnon playing Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes in the Hulu limited series, The outageShe would also become one of the show’s executive producers. It seemed like the perfect casting decision; McKinnon looks like her enough and excels at playing weirdos. But unfortunately, nothing of gold from pre-pandemic times can stay. On Thursday evening Deadline announced that McKinnon had quit The outageNo context was given as to why she decided not to continue playing the child prodigy-turned-fraudster, but contractual breakdowns have become somewhat of a fixture in the COVID era, with schedules shaken by the production stops.

A source said Deadline that even with this last minute problem with production plans, the limited series is still in the works. There has to be another blue-eyed blonde available in Hollywood, right?

And if you were determined to see McKinnon play a real madman, don’t worry. She is still bugged to play Carole Baskin, Joe Exotic’s nemesis NBC is coming Tiger King-based TV show Joe Exotic
