Kat caught sneaking drugs in Panama prison

It was far from the spinning crime.

A drug courier’s fluffy white cat was caught smuggling narcotics to a prison in Panama, authorities said.

The feline thug was carrying the contraband in a pouch tied around his neck when it was stopped outside Nueva Esperanza prison in Colon province on Friday, AFP reported.

“The animal had a cloth tied around its neck” containing packets of white powder, leaves and “vegetable matter,” said Andres Gutierrez, head of the Panama Penitentiary System.

Another official said the substances were likely cocaine and marijuana.

Local prosecutors said they had investigated the use of animals to sneak illegal substances into the Nueva Esperanza facility, which houses more than 1,700 inmates.

Meanwhile, the criminal cat in question will be taken to a pet adoption center, prosecutors said.

It is not the first time that bugs have been used as drug couriers by prisoners in the Central American country.

Authorities have previously intercepted drug delivery attempts by carrier pigeons and even drones.
