ROME – Juventus confirmed on Wednesday that it has used the definitive buy option of American midfielder Weston McKennie, taken out as a loan in the last summer market, for which it will pay $ 22.29 million to Germany’s Schalke 04.
The deal also provides for an additional $ 7.8 million to be paid in the event that certain sporting goals are met, the Turin team said in an official statement.
McKennie, who became a very important element in the balance sheet of Andrea Pirlo’s team, signed a contract until June 30, 2025.
This season, the 22-year-old American midfielder played 30 games, scoring five goals, four in Serie A and one in the Champions League in a 3-0 win over Barcelona.
The relationship between McKennie and a Schalke 04 sinking into the Bundesliga, in which it is the bottom nine points away from salvation, ends definitively, after winning a single match in 23 days.
Juventus is third in Serie A, seven points behind leader Inter Milan.
