The collegiate body had already denounced in an official statement on February 1 that several magistrates had been threatened with death

“I am facing death threats,” said Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) magistrate Julio Olivo at a news conference yesterday.

According to the magistrate, he has already filed the relevant complaint with the Attorney General (FGR) and the National Civil Police (PNC), while at the same time confirming that an inspector has already been assigned to the case.

In the statements, Olivo assured that the person who threatened him is a member of the New Ideas party and also said he has already been identified but no action has yet been taken.

Olivo called on the PNC and the Public Prosecution Service to exercise their roles and actions in the case, calling on the national and international community to intervene immediately in the situation.

“That the (Organization of) the United Nations (UN) realizes what is happening,” said the magistrate.

On February 1, the TSE had already denounced through an official statement that several magistrates of the collegiate body had been threatened, but on that occasion it was not specified who or who was responsible for the threats.

In issue 5 of the communiqué published by the TSE at the beginning of the month, the institution requested that the UN, the European Union (EU) and the Organization of American States (OAS) conduct their election observation missions in the country to prevent and report any act of political violence that may occur.

On that occasion, the presiding magistrate of the TSE, Dora Esmeralda Barahona, said she did not know that other magistrates were victims of threats and that she was only aware of Magistrate Olivo’s case.
