Julian Gil issues a racist injunction to clear the Puerto Rican flag in Miami

Miami. Actor Julian Gil described as racist the City of Miami’s new order to erase the huge Puerto Rican flag mural covering the restaurant “La Placita”, of which he owns.

The interpreter, born in Argentina but raised in Puerto Rico, noted this They will continue to fight that order, which they describe as ‘racist action’ against Puerto Ricans and Latinos, According to the Spanish-speaking chain Univisión this Wednesday.

“The flag remains and we’re going to fight it, of course we’re going to do it,” added the actor and businessman.

The order issued this week is the second of its kind, after two years ago the city ordered that “La Placita” should remove the paint from the giant flag that covered the three floors of the building where the restaurant is located, one of the owners is Puerto Rican chef José Mendín.

The dispute ended with an agreement in January 2020 that allowed the owners to keep the mural on the property, located in the historic MiMo neighborhood, which is home to several modernist buildings and which is one of Miami’s architectural features.

The decision a little over a year ago was even greeted by Miami Mayor Francis Suárez, “Puerto Ricans suffered a lot and they needed a victory like this. We did the right thing, ”he said.

The new order warns that if the mural is not cleared, the owners could lose the license to operate the restaurant, which opened in 2018.

“The city of Miami and the MiMo district in the middle of the pandemic have nothing better to do than, after all we’ve been through, to tell us again to remove our flag. This is ridiculous. Maybe MiMo doesn’t deserve my flag here, ”said Chef Mendín on his Instagram account.

The mural, which cost about $ 25,000, was created by Puerto Rican artist Héctor Collazo Hernández.
