Judge releases name of teen murder suspect in Carlsbad, new surveillance footage

CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) – In a virtual hearing on Tuesday, a judge in San Diego ordered that the name of the teen accused of murdering a woman on a trail of Carlsbad be disclosed. However, images of his face had to be kept private.

17-year-old Haloa Beaudet’s lawyer denies the allegations.

He is suspected of stabbing Lisa Thorborg on the Hosp Grove trail in November. His DNA was found on the victim. We ran it on a security camera away from the murder scene at a time corresponding to the time of death, ”said one detective.

At 11:25 am the day Thorborg died, the prosecution showed a security camera image of him walking barefoot down the street away from the path. “We feel like she died at about 11:10 am, so that’s about 15 minutes after she was killed,” said the detective.

Other surveillance cameras shown during the hearing captured the teen on the same trail in the days following the murder.

Detectives said he was arrested a few days later for snooping on the trail. Once taken into custody, a sample of his DNA was taken. “They eventually invented that DNA [Haloa’s swabs] matched the male DNA on Mrs. Thorborg’s shorts, ”said a detective.

Detectives also said a pair of slippers they think belong to the teenager were discovered near Thorborg. His lawyer argued that Thorborg might have discovered and picked up those slippers, and that was how she got his DNA on her.

The teen’s lawyer said there is no motive for murder. His grandmother told the judge he has no history of violence.

The judge decided that the case can continue.

Beaudet’s next hearing is scheduled for January 25th.

The teenager has to remain in custody for the time being.
