Jonathan Van Ness receives COVID-19 vaccine because New York qualifies HIV-positive people

Queer eye star Jonathan Van Ness recently shared that he received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. According to PEOPLEVan Ness, who was open about his HIV positive status, revealed that he was eligible for the first dose of the vaccine in New York after the state introduced new rollout of eligibility. On Instagram, the Netflix personality shared a photo of him getting the vaccine and encouraging others to see if they could get theirs too.

Van Ness wrote on Instagram that he is partnering with New York State to expand their vaccine program to include more people with pre-existing conditions such as HIV. He noted that being HIV positive is one of the pre-existing conditions that allow someone to vaccinate against COVID-19. As a result, he urged his followers to review guidelines for pre-existing conditions in their respective states to see if they can get their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The Queer eye wrote next to a photo of himself (wearing two masks) while getting his dose of the vaccine: “If I hadn’t looked online every day I wouldn’t have seen it, so definitely get involved in your search. This was my first shot and apart from a slight pain in my arm, I had no side effects and will have my second injection in a few weeks. “

“Every state has different guidelines, so you’ll want to research yours,” Van Ness continued. “Absolute patience, determination, internet access needed to do this so plz if you can help others get information or access plz so. Biggest hug & happy monday! Also I know my stronger mask should go down I didn’t want to take off my mask to put on the stronger undergarments so I just layered them as they were! Stay safe xx.

PEOPLE noted that individuals in New York with underlying health conditions are eligible for their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine since Feb. 15. “We are committed to vaccinating vulnerable populations who have suffered the most, as we distribute a strictly limited supply of vaccines, and those with co-morbidities are 94 percent of COVID deaths in the state,” New York Governor Andrew announced. Cuomo earlier. “Therefore, starting February 15, we will be eligible for people with co-morbidities and allow hospitals to use the additional doses they need to address that population.”
