Jonathan dos Santos considered retiring during the 2020 season

The 2020 season of Major League Soccer also left a sour taste for Jonathan dos Santos. The Mexican midfielder saw the Galaxy fail in their bid to make it to the playoffs and, coupled with the collective misstep, an injury left him sidelined for much of the calendar due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The thunderclouds of 2020 sent the word ‘reitro’ to Jonathan’s head.

“Yes, the truth is, yes,” Dos Santos said on the ESPN show ‘Now or Never’, expressly asking if he was thinking of leaving professional football.

“It was one of the worst injuries I’ve had in my entire career, more than the knee injury, because with this injury I never knew when I would feel 100%; it’s an injury where you feel discomfort and years or two years, depending on everyone’s body, and last year I had a really bad time.

“ Besides, I wasn’t with my family, I didn’t play for a while, when I returned to play I felt uncomfortable, I played and trained with a lot of discomfort, I was not one hundred percent, I said it, it was one of the most complicated years of my entire race ”.
