The Director of the National Police (PN), Major General Edward Sánchez González, reported that a joint committee consisting of members of the police and the Ministry of Defense was established to incident that occurred between an agent of the Directorate-General for Road Safety and Land Transport (Digesett) and a general.
The announcement was made during a press conference at the National Palace, where González stated the commission was created to address the situation and take action.
“The Minister appoints the Inspector General of the Armed Forces, we appoint the Inspector General of the National Police to a Joint Commission, to carry out the situation in which this event took place and issue the corresponding report in due time,” he claimed.
The initiative was taken in response to an altercation that took place in the National District last Monday, where José Manuel Frías Rodríguez, who identified himself like the brigadier general, he scolded two Digesett agents for “disrespecting him” when checking out.
Rodríguez had parked in a section of the DN cycle path, an area where this action is prohibited.
In a video that went viral on social networks, Rodríguez is visualized and demands that the agents pay attention because of his rank of general.
“Watch Amet, watch Amet, but what is this?” Rodriguez warned one of the traffic officers.
The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, He called on the Dominican population to respect members of the National Police and Armed Forces, who “work more united than ever”.
Abinader pointed out that given that the Covid-19 pandemic puts the country in an unprecedented situation, friction can occur, so it is important for the population to maintain order.
