Johnny Depp will not be able to appeal the ruling accusing him of assaulting Amber Heard

The UK Court of Appeals on Thursday declined to admit to hearing an appeal filed by American actor Johnny Depp against a 2020 ruling accusing him of assaulting his ex-wife Amber Heard.

Judge Nicholas Underhill stated that “the additional evidence” presented by Depp to justify the appeal was not accepted, noting that it “had no prospect of success” and therefore there is no reason to proceed.

At a hearing last week, his attorney, Andrew Caldecott, revealed as ‘new evidence’ about Heard’s alleged lies the fact that, according to his records, he had not donated to charities in the United States, as he had promised, the $ 7 million in revenue. from her divorce from the artist in 2016.

Depp wanted to appeal the November 2 ruling by the Superior Court, which dismissed his libel suit against the newspaper ‘The Sun’, which in a 2018 article accused him of being ‘a woman abuser’ and several alleged violent incidents to actress Amber Heard, 34.

In that decision, the court, which had heard testimony from both parties in a trial that caused an uproar in the UK, said the charges against Depp, 57, were ‘essentially true’ in the paper and ruled 12 of the 14 attacks. attributed to him ‘had taken place’.

As a result of this ruling, the film production company Warner Bros has removed the actor from the cast of the third installment of the “Fantastic Animals” franchise, written and produced by JK Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books, which will be released in 2022.
