John Travolta offers his house in Maine for sale

Islesboro, Maine. The Maine mansion that actor John Travolta shared with his late wife, actress Kelly Preston, is up for sale.

The 67-year-old “Grease” and “Saturday Night Fever” stars recently put the house in Islesboro, an island off the coast of Maine, up for sale for $ 5 million, according to the Portland Press Herald.

According to a 1999 report in Architectural Digest, the couple bought the house in 1991, when they first got married, turning it from a ‘very dark and gloomy’ house to a bright family home for their unborn son Jett. Built in 1903, the 1,000-square-meter (10,830 square feet) home has 20 rooms and sits on 19 acres of oceanfront property.

Travolta told Architectural Digest that he and Preston bought the house after visiting actress Kirstie Alley at her home on the island. The couple said they’ve always wanted a home big enough for dozens of family members.

Preston, who starred opposite Tom Cruise in “Jerry Maguire” and Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Twins,” died last year after losing a two-year battle with breast cancer. He was 57 years old. Their first son, Jett, died in 2009 after an attack at the family’s vacation home in the Bahamas.

Travolta became a Hollywood star in the 1970s and was nominated for an Oscar for his performance on “Saturday Night Fever”. He was nominated again for his role in “Pulp Fiction” in 1994.
