Comedian John Mulaney was checked in for 60 days in a drug addiction clinic for alcohol and cocaine addiction.
A source exclusively confirmed to Page Six that the 38-year-old golden boy of comedy checked into a rehab center in Pennsylvania last weekend.
Netflix stand-up star and ‘Saturday Night Live’ alum Mulaney has been forthright about his past struggles with sobriety, telling stories of his partying and using prescription and illegal drugs from an early age. He first became sober at the age of 23.
The source said: ‘John’s friends and family are happy that he is finally getting some help and focusing on his health.
“His fans know he struggled with sobriety in the past, he has talked about it openly. Unfortunately, he struggled again during the pandemic.
“He’s on board with his recovery, he’s not fighting rehab.”
In an interview last year, Mulaney revealed that he started drinking at the age of 13. “I drank for attention,” he said. “I was very outgoing, and when I was 12 I wasn’t. I didn’t know how to act. And then I drank, and I was hilarious again. “
He said in an Esquire cover story that his alcohol use also prompted him to take drugs. He says that while he never liked smoking weed, he “liked” cocaine and was on prescription drugs.

When Mulaney was a teenager, his parents sent him to a psychiatrist, who told him he was partly a nice boy, the one “gorilla who wants to kill the other half.”

After years of blacking out and even drinking perfume, the 2005 tipping point was a bend when he was 23 years old.

Mulaney said he stopped drinking cocaine and alcohol within a month of each other. He claimed he didn’t go to rehab, he just went cold turkey and was sober for many years after that.
