Joey Votto turns triple play vs. Cleveland

You don’t see that every day.

In the eighth inning of Saturday’s game against Cleveland, Reds reliever Amir Garrett gave up back-to-back singles that put runners on the corners with no outs. Josh Naylor followed with a ball liner towards first base, where Joey Votto snapped the ball and tagged out Franmil Reyes. Assuming the ball hit the ground first, Eddie Rosario went home while Votto held the ball and waited.

Votto threw the ball to third base, where Rosario was out on a triple play. It was the 31st triple play in Reds history and Cincinnati’s first since Todd Frazier completed the feat on July 25, 2017 at Yankee Stadium.

Votto roared with excitement as the crowd in Great American Ball Park came to life to show their approval.
