Joe Scarborough to Capitol Hill Police: You opened the doors for them

Scarborough, a former Florida congressman, expressed anger at how quickly and easily the police lost control of the siege.

“Trump supporters come in and you open the doors for them,” Scarborough yelled at police. “You open the doors to them and let them break through the people’s houses.”

The co-host of “Morning Joe” warned police against images of law enforcement officers patting rioters on the back and taking selfies with insurgents.

They “politely opened the door to terrorists who scribbled on the door, ‘are killing the media,'” he added.

According to the Washington Metropolitan Police Department, four people died in the chaos. One woman was shot by a Capitol police officer and three other people had medical emergencies.

Trump is to blame, Scarborough said. The crowd that stormed the Capitol on Wednesday was filled with furious Trump supporters and conspiracy theorists who fed the president misinformation about the election.
Scarborough, once Trump’s friend, was criticized for favoring Trump as a presidential candidate in 2016. The morning show’s host has become an ardent critic of the President and Republicans. In 2017, he announced that he would be leaving the Republican Party. On Thursday, he shared his anger at how the president fueled violence.

“He’s an insurgent. There are no questions. He should be arrested today,” Scarborough said, speaking of Trump’s actions that led to Wednesday’s violence. “He should be sent to prison today for rebelling against the United States of America.”

Scarborough questioned the lack of action by the Capitol Police.

“Even as a member of Congress, I had to have my ID to enter,” he said. Why weren’t the Capitol Hill police better prepared for this? Why wasn’t the city of Washington DC better prepared for this? ‘

The morning show host also pointed out that this level of violence in official U.S. government buildings has not occurred since the War of 1812 when the British stormed Washington.
