WASHINGTON- A rehearsal of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration ceremony in front of the Washington Capitol was interrupted on Monday due to a fire at a nearby homeless camp, authorities said.
Those taking part in the trial, including members of a military gang, were evacuated and taken to a nearby building within the legislative complex.
Witnesses reported that the police took action and shouted, “This is not a drill!”
A fire had broken out several blocks away and the participants were evacuated as a precaution, police sources told the AP. The area in front of the Capitol has been closed to the public after the January 6 attack by fanatical supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump.
Firefighters responded and put out the fire.
