Of all the cinematic universes that have surfaced since Marvel and Disney have finally proven that a massive, company-wide movie crossover could get you billions to billions of dollars, if it were real Done right, few are as transparently constructed after the fact as those of Bad Robot and Paramount supposed Clover field franchise of movies. Say what you love about the devastating remains of Universal’s Dark universe, but at least most of them (largely hypothetical) goofy-ass monster movies have been made as members of the franchise. While JJ Abrams and his team have had a weird tendency to render movies Clover field movies afterwards; both 10 Cloverfield Lane and The Cloverfield Paradox were originally conceived as standalone projects which then found themselves Clover fieldcame up when Abrams got his hands the scripts.
That’s all to note our surprise today, like Variety reports that a Clover field continue that really life started as one Clover field sequel is now reportedly in the works. Indeed, the new movie – written by Joe Barton – will supposedly serve as an explicit sequel to Abrams’ 2008 monster movie, which is to say the movie that actually kicked off our collective cases of Clover field fever by asking us what it would be like if TJ Miller were the world’s most supernatural dedicated cameraman.
That said, the conceit of the original movie’s found footage won’t be repeated for this second (fourth?) Movie, because it is, well, 2021. H.probably it will be the original movie “What does a Godzilla movie look from street level? “conceit, however, because that – along with some clever marketing – was pretty much the best of the original movie was looking forward to it.
Abrams will be producing on the film. Barton recently made headlines when he became a showrunner on HBO Max’s The batter spin-off TVshow.
