While the glasses do not immediately scream Evangelion at first glance, if you take a closer look, you can see the subtlest nods to the two Eva pilots in tiny details based on their respective techno-organic mechs. The sunglasses are clearly something of a different story as it’s pretty hard not to recognize what those purple frames are all about.
