One night last month, comedian Jimmy Kimmel devoted almost his entire nighttime monologue to Ted Cruz’s “despicable” and insane defense of Trump’s groundless election challenge. It’s an empty crusade that despite the president calling his wife ugly and accusing his father of being involved in JFK’s murder, Cruz has gone all-in – presumably in the cynical hope that he could one day become the candidate to run. represents the MAGA. side of the Republican Party in 2024.
And on Wednesday night, after President Trump instigated a treacherous attack on the Capitol in which his followers effectively held the Halls of Congress hostage for several hours while the reserve police and National Guard were nowhere to be found, Kimmel addressed the lawless revolt.
Thank you for joining us for the Donald Trump-era betrayal finale. This was one of those days that I always assumed was over. This is not the kind of thing I ever thought would happen in this country in my lifetime, ”Kimmel announced.
He continued, “The President of the United States, for being too angry, too insecure, and too incompetent to deal with the fact that he lost an election – a fair election; an election that was no different from any other election; an election he lost by 7 million votes and 70 voters – pits an angry mob against members of Congress and his own vice president, not to mention endangering Capitol Police, those blue lives he claims to be so important to him. ”
Kimmel called him “ Benedict Arnold ” and went to the rally where Trump spoke earlier in the day, where he caused the storming of the Capitol and told his faithful MAGA heads, ‘And after that, we’re going to walk over there, and I’ll be there with you. We’re going to walk down … to the Capitol and we’re going to cheer our brave senators and congressmen … And we probably won’t be cheering that much for some of them. Because you never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength and you have to be strong. (Parts of the Trump rally crowd later invaded the Capitol.)
“His speech was historic: never before have so many people gathered to watch a president masturbate,” Kimmel joked.
Then he turned his attention to the others who made possible the storming of the Capitol. “The police were very relaxed compared to the Black Lives Matter protests. Some took selfies with the criminals; others seemed to welcome them through the gates. It was a terrible day in the history of this country, ”said Kimmel. ‘Our president and the bastards who kept this’ stolen election’ charade going – and that’s you Josh Hawley, that’s you Ted Cruz – intentionally or just wildly irresponsibly lit these fires to start a war to distract us of the fact that Donald Trump has lost the election. ”
“Ted Cruz, this man doesn’t even believe the election was stolen,” he added. He knows better. He is so hungry for political power. He is so desperate to be liked and supported by these nuts who think Joe Biden is a Chinese agent and Satan is trying to force them to wear masks to the mall so he can one day become president, he is willing to go with roll the dice on a civil war. “
He concluded, “These people are not Americans. There is no ‘we the people’. There ‘I are the people’. ”
