Jets cut kicker Sergio Castillo after brutal show

The Jets released kicker Sergio Castillo on Tuesday after missing three field goal attempts in Sunday’s 40-3 defeat to the Seahawks on Sunday.

The writing was on the wall for Castillo when the Jets kicker Chase McLaughlin claimed waivers from the Jaguars on Monday. Jets coach Adam Gase also said Sam Ficken could return from the injured reserve this week. Castillo filled in for Ficken, who had a groin injury.

Castillo was 6-for-7 on field goals, with his only miss on a block, during his first stint as a Jets kicker. Ficken came back, but then injured his groin again. Castillo took over kicking again, but had a difficult time in the past three games. He scored only 2 of the 6 field goals and was 2-for-3 on extra points. On Sunday he missed from 37, 41 and 43 meters after his first attempt from 45.

If McLaughlin kicks for the Jets this year, he would be the fourth Jets kicker in the past two years and sixth in the last four.
