Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence is expected to be the # 1 pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars. That leaves Justin Fields of Ohio State and Zach Wilson of BYU available to Douglas. According to former NFL MVP and Super Bowl winner Joe Theismann, Wilson is the top QB prospect of the three. According to CBS Sports:
‘To be honest. [It’s] very close. We’re splitting hair a little bit here, but I would [take Wilson over Lawrence] actually. … I think Zach, of course, I just love the way he throws the football. It is difficult to teach. We’ve seen people learn to perfect it a little bit. He has all the skills; he has a living arm, he has a strong arm, he can touch it, he can shoot it. He’s 6’3 ”, he’s not a little boy. He moves with a lot of athletic ability. I think he looks really ready when he sees him play quarterback. Trevor Lawrence is certainly a big kid who can run well, surrounded by great talent at Clemson. It’s a bit like Mac Jones in Alabama. They are surrounded by great talent and sometimes you look at that talent and say ‘did that help the position a lot’. I think in the case of Trevor, who is a young guy and as strong and physical as he is, he will have a great opportunity to learn, just like Mac and all the young boys, Justin Fields, also from Ohio state. I think when I get into this particular design, Zach checks all the boxes for me. Personally my choice. My husband. It looks like the Jets are the one to take him on 2, which potentially adds up Sam Darnold on the market or elsewhere. “
Born in New Brunswick, NJ, Theismann led the Washington Redskins to a pair of Super Bowls and won the Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl XVII over the Miami Dolphins. Theismann was the NFL MVP in 1983.
