Hell has no anger like the richest person in the world who is scorned. Jeff Bezos’ space company Blue Origin announced on Thursday that it was the debut date for New Glenn, its massive, high-lift rocket, resistance, and blamed it for the delay in a flaming bag on the doorstep of US Space Force, its newest military arm. .
Blue Origin hoped to launch the vehicle, which is positioned as a reusable competitor to SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy and Starship (although with much less payload than Starship), by the end of this year. It now says the fourth quarter of 2022 is the new target.
In a statement on Thursday, the company said “the schedule has been fine-tuned to meet demand from Blue Origin’s commercial customers.”
The statement explicitly notes that this is because Blue Origin missed out on a major government contract.
“This updated first flight target follows the Space Force’s recent decision not to select New Glenn for the National Security Space Launch (NSSL) Phase 2 Launch Services Procurement (LSP).”
Blue Origin and Northrop Grumman were the losers in that four-way race announced last August. SpaceX and United Launch Alliance have won two contracts, each worth more than $ 300 million across multiple launches.
To make it clear, Blue Origin is not happy about losses, it concludes the statement by pointing out that it has invested $ 1 billion in rebuilding Launch Complex 36, which is part of Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
The US Space Force did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
