JCE proposes to amend the 1944 Civil Registry Act

The Central Electoral Council, headed by its President Román Jáquez, submitted to the legislative chambers its proposal to amend Law 659-44, on acts of marital status, of 17 July 1944.

Santo Domingo, RD The aim of the initiative is to update and adapt this law to the new realities experienced by the registry office in the country and above all to ensure that citizens have better access to the services offered, including to guarantee the security of all documents processed in the registry office.

The JCE considers it necessary to adapt the conditions in the law to the regime in order to eliminate under-registrations in the country.

The project took into account the link between Articles 55 and 56 of the Constitution with the registry office on the rights of the family and those of children and adolescents.

The JCE explains that in its proposal it has taken into account a series of laws affecting civil status, such as 136-03, which establishes the protection system for children and adolescents, 01-1 2 on national development strategy, 29- 11, Organic of the Superior Electoral Court, and 15-19, Organic of the Electoral Regime, as well as the major resolutions and regulations issued by the JCE on marital status.
