The Mets fired GM Jared Porter on Tuesday morning after a sexing scandal came to light.
“We ended Jared Porter this morning,” says the owner Steve Cohen tweeted. “In my first press conference I spoke about the importance of integrity and I meant it. This kind of behavior should have zero tolerance. “
Porter, who was hired off-season by Mets team president Sandy Alderson, texted a foreign female reporter in 2016 when he led the Cubs scouting department.
The lyrics include a photo of a bump in Porter’s pants while he was in bed and a hard penis. At one point, Porter sent 62 consecutive text messages to the reporter with no response.
“The more explicit ones aren’t mine. Those are kind of joke stock images, ”Porter told ESPN after sending the text message.
Alderson and the Mets released a statement Monday night in the wake of the ESPN.com report.
“I spoke directly with Jared Porter about events that took place in 2016 that we were first informed of tonight,” Alderson said in the statement. “Jared has admitted to me his grave error of judgment, taken responsibility for his behavior, expressed regret and previously apologized for his actions.
“The Mets take these matters seriously, expect professional and ethical behavior from all of our employees and certainly do not approve of the described behavior. … We will follow up as we review the facts about this serious issue. “
Cohen then acted quickly with Twitter to announce the 41-year-old general manager’s resignation.
