Rams’ quarterback will miss the week 17 game after undergoing surgery for a broken thumb
The Los Angeles Rams quarterback, Jared Goff, underwent surgery on his broken right thumb in Los Angeles this Monday and will not play against the Arizona Cardinals on Sundayannounced head coach Sean McVay.
“We thought this would be the best that could be done for him and our team,” McVay stated, adding that some screws had been put into Jared Goff and that could come back for playoffs if the Rams move up.
John Wolford is Jared Goff’s substitute and will start in his place.
Jared Goff injured his thumb in the closing seconds of the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks when he completed a 30-foot pass to Gerald Everett’s tight end.. As he threw, Jared Goff’s right hand hit the helmet of the defensive end of Seahawks, Benson Mayowa.
“I put it back in,” commented Jared Goff, “and ended the game.”
In his post-game press conference, Jared Goff downplayed the impact of the injury by saying his thumb “didn’t feel terrible.”
He also said his thumb didn’t bother him on the fields since Jared Goff completed six of 14 passes over 74 yards after the injury.
The Rams’ 20-9 defeat to the Seahawks on Sunday marked the first time this season that they lost two games in a row. They can still take a playoff spot with a win against the Cardinals or a Green Bay Packers win over the Chicago Bears in Week 17.
