Japanese say “no” to Olympics | THE UNMARTY

TOKYO, Japan. Less than seven months before opening date and with the world’s largest pandemic, the Tokyo Olympics continue to falter.

According to two surveys in the Asian country, more than 80% of people think that the sports fair maxim should be canceled or postponed.

The polls were conducted by the Kyodo news agency and the television network TBS.

Tokyo 2021 organizers have remained optimistic that the competition could begin on July 23, a year after its original 2020 date, but the spike in Covid-19 cases in the Japanese capital is a major obstacle.

The TBS survey asked 1,261 people if the Games should be held and 81% said no to 13% who said yes. The negative response was 18% higher than in December.

The other survey, by Kyodo, was very similar: 80.1 of the interviewees gave a “no”.
