Nearly 19,000 additional doses of vaccine are injected, bringing the state’s total to more than 300,000.

The Utah Department of Health reported that it had administered nearly 19,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in the past day – the highest number of injections per day since the vaccinations started in the state last month.
The welcome record came Saturday with 242,784 people in the state now receiving the first dose and 57,732 having received both.
The state has previously exceeded 16,000 doses administered in one day. But this is the first time it has gone above 18,000.
The day also brought other good trends. The total number of hospital admissions decreased, as did the number of patients in intensive care units. The number of new cases of the virus increased only modestly, while the seven-day average also decreased.

Deaths reported in the past day • 8.
Five people were killed in Salt Lake County. They were a man and a woman, both between the ages of 45 and 64; a woman 65-84; and a man and woman, both over 85 years old.
In addition, there was one death each in Cache County – a man 65-84; Davis County – a man 65-84; and Weber County – a woman 85 and older.
Hospital admissions reported in the past day • 430. That is 16 less than Friday. Of those currently hospitalized, 139 are in intensive care – nine fewer than on Friday.
Tests reported in the past day • 8,768.
Percentage of positive tests • 16.74%. This is slightly lower than the seven-day average of 18%.
Totals so far • 345,430 cases; 1,663 dead; 13,427 hospital admissions; 2,018,175 tests.
